Back to All Tests15:00
Road safety is a critical issue that concerns everyone who uses the road. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are killed and millions are injured in road accidents across the world. In India, road accidents claim around 1.5 lakh lives every year, making it one of the most road-accident-prone countries in the world. Most accidents are caused by human error, including speeding, drunk driving, distracted driving and not wearing seat belts or helmets. Poor road conditions, inadequate lighting and improper signage also contribute to accidents. The Government has been taking steps to improve road safety. The Motor Vehicles Act has been amended to increase penalties for traffic violations. Speed cameras, breathalysers and other enforcement technologies are being used more widely. Road safety campaigns are being conducted to educate motorists and pedestrians about safe road behaviour. Infrastructure improvements, including better roads, pedestrian crossings and road signs, are being made. Vehicle safety standards are being raised and older vehicles are being phased out. Every road user has a responsibility to follow traffic rules and behave safely on the road. Motorists should never drink and drive. Wearing a seat belt in a car and a helmet on a two-wheeler can be the difference between life and death in an accident. Pedestrians should use designated crossings and not jaywalk. Mobile phones should not be used while driving. By working together, we can significantly reduce the number of road accidents and save precious lives.
