Back to All Tests15:00
Energy is the lifeblood of a modern economy. Access to reliable and affordable energy is essential for economic growth, poverty reduction and improvement in quality of life. India has made remarkable progress in increasing electricity generation and access over the past few decades. The Government's Saubhagya scheme ensured that every household in the country had access to electricity by 2019. However, the quality and reliability of power supply continues to be a challenge in many parts of the country. India is making rapid progress in renewable energy. The country has set an ambitious target of reaching 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Solar energy is the fastest growing segment of the renewable energy sector. India has some of the best solar resources in the world and is well on its way to becoming a solar power giant. Wind energy is another important source of renewable power. India is also developing hydropower, bioenergy and small-scale renewable energy projects. The International Solar Alliance, launched jointly by India and France, is promoting solar energy cooperation among countries in the tropical belt. India is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070. The transition to clean energy will require significant investment in renewable energy infrastructure, grid modernisation, energy storage and energy efficiency. It will also require policies that support the development and deployment of clean energy technologies and facilitate the transition of workers from the fossil fuel sector to the clean energy sector.
