Back to All Tests15:00
Trees are the lungs of the earth. They absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen, which is essential for the survival of all living beings. Trees play a crucial role in regulating the climate and maintaining the ecological balance. They prevent soil erosion, conserve water, provide habitat for wildlife and contribute to the beauty of the landscape. Trees also provide timber, fuel, food and medicine. In many parts of the world, forests are being destroyed at an alarming rate due to human activities such as agriculture, urbanisation and logging. Deforestation has serious consequences for the environment and for human communities that depend on forests for their livelihoods. It contributes to climate change, reduces biodiversity and increases the risk of floods and droughts. The Government of India has been taking steps to increase the forest cover of the country. The National Afforestation Programme provides financial assistance to states for afforestation and eco-restoration of degraded forests. The Green India Mission aims to increase forest cover and improve the quality of forests. Citizens also have a role to play in protecting trees and increasing green cover. Planting trees on special occasions, in parks and along roads can help to increase the urban tree cover. Not cutting trees unnecessarily and reporting cases of illegal felling to the authorities are also important contributions. Every tree matters and every person can make a difference by planting and nurturing trees. A green earth is a healthy earth and a healthy earth is a happy home for all living beings.
