Cyber security is the practice of protecting computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from digital attacks, theft and damage. As the world becomes increasingly digital, cyber security has become one of the most important challenges of our time. Cyber attacks can target individuals, businesses, government agencies and critical infrastructure such as power grids, water systems and financial networks. Common types of cyber attacks include malware, ransomware, phishing, denial of service attacks and data breaches. The consequences of cyber attacks can be severe, including financial losses, disruption of services, theft of sensitive information and damage to reputation. In India, the number of cyber crimes has been increasing rapidly with the growth of internet usage. Online fraud, identity theft, cyberbullying and child exploitation are serious concerns. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team is the national agency responsible for responding to cyber incidents and promoting cyber security awareness. The Government has enacted laws to address cyber crimes, including the Information Technology Act. Personal data protection legislation is being developed to safeguard the privacy of individuals. Organisations need to invest in robust cyber security systems and practices, including regular software updates, strong passwords, data encryption and employee training. Individuals should also be aware of cyber risks and take precautions such as not clicking on suspicious links, not sharing personal information online and using strong and unique passwords for different accounts.
