Scientists have made enormous contributions to the progress of human civilisation. Through their curiosity, hard work and dedication, they have expanded the boundaries of human knowledge and transformed the world we live in. Isaac Newton discovered the laws of motion and gravitation, laying the foundation for classical mechanics. Albert Einstein developed the theory of relativity, which revolutionised our understanding of space, time and gravity. Marie Curie conducted pioneering research on radioactivity and discovered two new elements, polonium and radium. Charles Darwin proposed the theory of evolution by natural selection, which transformed our understanding of the diversity of life on earth. Louis Pasteur developed the germ theory of disease and invented pasteurisation, saving countless lives. Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, the first antibiotic, which has saved millions of lives. India has also produced many great scientists. Sir C.V. Raman won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for his discovery of the Raman effect. Dr. Homi Bhabha was the principal architect of India's nuclear programme. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai founded the Indian Space Research Organisation. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, known as the Missile Man of India, made significant contributions to India's missile and nuclear programmes. Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, known as the father of the Green Revolution in India, helped to transform Indian agriculture and prevent famines. These scientists inspire us to pursue knowledge and use it for the benefit of humanity.
