Hand Positioning and Home Row
The F and J keys, marked with tactile bumps, guide your index fingers to the home row—the foundation of touch typing. These bumps allow you to locate the correct position without looking, building muscle memory for blind typing. Place your left hand on the A, S, D, F keys and your right hand on the J, K, L, ; keys, with thumbs resting lightly on the spacebar. Keep your fingers slightly curved and relaxed, poised to reach other keys with minimal movement.
The home row serves as your anchor, where your fingers return after each keystroke. Start by gently pressing each home row key, feeling the bumps on F and J to center your index fingers. This tactile feedback helps you type accurately without glancing at the keyboard. Practice typing simple sequences like ‘asdf’ and ‘jkl;’ to reinforce this position. TouchTyping.online’s interactive exercises are designed to strengthen your home row familiarity, guiding you toward faster, more confident typing.

To explore beyond the home row, reach for nearby keys (like G or H) with the appropriate finger, then return to your starting position. For example, use your left index finger for G and your right index finger for H. Consistent practice builds speed and accuracy, making touch typing feel natural.
